Am I really only on week 5?
CIM Training: Week 5 (week of Sept. 10)
Monday:
Goal: 8 mi. w/ 10 x 100m
Actual: 8.75 mi. moderate
I try to keep my blog as close to strictly-running as I can, but this week has been another crazy week for me. In August I started a new job, and on this Monday, right after I got into work after starting my 7th week of morning runs, I was told my contract was ending much earlier than planned. The role I've been doing was moving to another team across the country. Friday would be my last day.
Tuesday:
Goal: Rest
Actual: Rest
Wednesday:
Goal: 9 miles easy
Actual: Rest
Goal: 9 miles easy
Actual: Rest
I didn't want to work, and I didn't even want to run.
Thursday:
Goal: Rest
Actual: 6 mi. easy
I managed a few miles after work to rejuvenate myself to smile my way through my last day.
Friday:
Goal: 5 mi. recovery
Actual: 4.07 mi. easy
Actual: 4.07 mi. easy
And this was the day I became unemployed. So I went for a run, after work, just like the good old days. The bright side in all of this: No more morning running in the immediate future! ;)
Saturday:
Goal: 13 mi. w/ 8 @ MGP
Actual: 6 mi. easy
Early Saturday morning I saw a tweet that my running club was putting on their yearly half marathon, so I decided to go support that. Just a few easily miles to get closer to my weekly mileage goal -- I missed a bunch of miles in my lame state at the beginning of the week.
Sunday:
Goal: 6 mi. recovery
Actual: DSE Half Marathon
I still don't have a marathon goal pace, so I just wanted to run this as my long run. I started off slow-ish, but once I started picking off a few girls from this HUGE CROWD OF RUNNERS...
...I wanted to see if I could push it a little. I haven't been running fast AT ALL lately, so this was an interesting test. My first mile was 8:26, and then I hit 10 miles between 7:45-8:00. I ended with a couple 8:10s.
Lake Merced & The Olympic Club golf course
Not too shabby. Completely unexpected (...I really was thinking I'd hold more of a 8:30 overall pace based on all my recent long road runs) & totally fun.
$5 DSE half marathon for the MFing win!
Garmin time: 1:44:18, 7:57 overall pace
Gender place: 8 out of 40
Overall place: 51 out of 147
Overall place: 51 out of 147
Overall, I finished week 5 with 37.92 miles of running. This is quite the difference compared to my 50-mile week last week, but circumstances considering (& the fact I basically started my 12-week plan over with this week), this is not far from the planned 41 I had on schedule. Still no momentum on goals for CIM, but I'm not feeling like that's a very important thing to focus on right now.

So sorry about your job. I am sure you will find something better soon! Also on that note when you find something can you have that company hire me too so I can move out there!! :) Nice job on the race!
ReplyDeleteNatch!
DeleteI love DSE races! I recently incorporated one of their 5ks into my long run... so cheap and fun! Great job in your half!
ReplyDeleteThey are great... hope to see you at some of them!
DeleteOh damn. :( I'm so sorry about the job situation. That's such a shitty deal.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on that half though!!!
Thanks, Pam. :)
DeleteStupid job :(
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a company that had jobs doing what you like to do and could pay you a lot of money to do it with a schedule that you liked. I would hire you in a heartbeat.
And I have a MGP in mind for you ;-)
I wish you had that company, too! And currently taking your MGP into consideration, but it seems so fast for me right now... meh meh.
DeleteNice job on your half finish but oh so sorry about the job. I hope something else comes up soon, something 10x better than the last two jobs. Sux.
ReplyDeleteI hope so, too! Thanks, Alma. :)
DeleteNot a bad week at all and a great half marathon, well done! Sorry to hear about the job, but that too will sort out again. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Johann!
DeleteBALLS BALLS BALLS. I am sorry friend.
ReplyDeleteThanks, friend. Channeling my inner Katie here.
DeleteSo sorry about the job - that's a total shocker. But great time on the Half!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks. :)
DeleteI wish I knew about the DSE Half and did that instead of what I ran on Saturday. Congrats on such a great week and keep you head up on the job front! I am keeping my eyes open for you! And yay for no more early morning runs!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Naomi! And yes -- I've been excited about no early morning runs... except what did I do on my first day of unemployment? Got up at 5:30 to meet Aron for a run. ;)
DeleteVery good Ms. Not So Average Runner!
ReplyDeleteChanging jobs can make for big stress ..(has for me) ..glad you are motoring through it!
That half was fast!
Thanks, Paul!
DeleteBoo. That sucks. They suck for not keeping you. Hang in there (and bask in the absence of morning runs)!! Having the same problem setting a goal pace & just trying not to think about it. :P
ReplyDeleteHey, it wasn't letting me post on the latest post and I usually only lurk on running blogs, but I just want to let you know that my prayers are with you and Chachi. Maybe all of this was meant to be so you can spend this time really enjoying each other's company.
ReplyDeleteThinking of poor chachi! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteMe too...I'm so sad for you. I think of you every time I stroke my cat and my heart breaks a bit for you both. Enjoy the last weeks.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the job-loss. I'm still between jobs, too. Sweet half-mary time. Maybe I'll get that fast over the next couple years. :-) May I ask what industry you're in? Or is that inappropriate? Just curious.
ReplyDeleteSorry to read about Chachi. :-( Best wishes.
