She invited me to participate in a 5-mile sunset run benefiting Japan's tsunami/earthquake relief this evening. And, in true Katie fashion, she can't "just" do 5 miles. She invited me to run 5 miles before the gathering, then met up with Fleet Feet Sports for their 5-mile sunset run. It was very cool knowing our donation to run was going straight to Japan's efforts. We even got a sweet tech shirt and some snacks afterward. Holla!
Cutest shirt ever!
Running along Crissy Field to Hopper's Hands was glorious this evening but it was SO WINDY heading out! At least we knew we'd have some killer negative splits heading back. :) Katie always pushes my running limits quite a bit more than I can on my own, which is nice. Running with her is great for a million billion reasons, but this is one of the best!10-mile splits (1:22:20, an 8:14 pace): 8:30, 8:12, 8:05, 7:59, 8:03, 8:41, 8:21, 8:11, 8:09, 8:04
Little paper boats out on the water.
One thing is for sure, though: I'm not used to mid-week longer-ish runs! Not to fear; I have plenty keeping me energized these days.GIVEAWAY!!
On Monday, my rockin' new sponsor GU came out with a brand new Roctane flavor, Chocolate Raspberry. It's like eating Valentine's Day candy-flavored energy on the run -- but without the mess, sticky fingers, or Hallmark-holiday lameness. Or hurt feelings when you don't even get any of that. Reviews claim that this is the best Roctane flavor yet.
My friends over at GU were kind enough to send me a metric ton of GU samples with which I may do whatever I want (Really? Who actually does that?!). I figured I'll stop being greedy and throw some of this goodness your way!
I smell a giveaway!
I've put together a nice little package of GU Brew tablets, Peach Tea Chomps, Jet Blackberry 2x caffiene GU, and a handful of the brand spankin' new Chocolate Raspberry Roctane. The only thing missing on the package? YOUR NAME!Want a chance at winning it?
Okay then!

ReplyDeleteYay!! I follow girl! Let's plan a run too??
ReplyDeleteI follow! And I'm stoked to try the new Roctane flavor!
ReplyDeleteI usually stick to Gu and Hammer gels, Nuun and Ultima... and every once in awhile, jellybeans!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower for sure! I use GU and also some locally manufactured gels. GU is quite expensive here in SA and we don't get all the flavors here as well. On ultras I always take different brands and flavors because I can only stomach the same gel up to a point. Have a good weekend!

ReplyDeleteI fuel with peanut butter and water usually!

ReplyDeleteI fuel for my runs with Gu and water most of the time. When I was marathon training I was using Clif shot blocks. Maybe if I win this I will be hard core enough to start training for longer races again ;)

ReplyDeleteI use Gu and Gatorade for races, but for some long training runs I go out armed with Swedish Fish and Gatorade :-)
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I am officially never making you two wait for me at a Sunset run. You were tearing it up out there. Even on my grandest tempo day I could never keep up. Aren't the shirts cute? I am always sad I can't make it out. And I love the puppy Hopper paws.

ReplyDeleteLinked you on my blog :)
ReplyDeleteI currently use Egels every 6ish miles. Previousy I used Cliff Bloks (one bock every two miles). On shorter runs I'll take Powerbar gel blasts more because I think they're yummy than for the carbs :)
ReplyDeleteThere are peach tea chomps? I must try those. Some chomps are too tart for me, so if the peach tea are milder then I will hop on that train for sure.
ReplyDeleteLately I've fueled my runs with chocolate cherry Clif Shots, which are so delicious. But I gave one to a friend and she nearly had a heart attack in the gym!
I generally eat chomps before long runs and experiment with different gels during shorter runs. Sometimes my fueling adventures lead to stomach cramps, but I am a gel addict now! They're so easy.
I follow!

ReplyDeleteand i use chocolate gu to fuel, but chocolate raspberry sounds like the stuff running dreams are made of. mmm.

ReplyDeleteI like to mix my Gu flavors during a really long run - keeps things interesting. I usually keep the Pomegranate Roctane for the later miles - the caffeine definitely helps get over the long mile hump.
ReplyDeleteNext time in SF, we have to run to see Hopper's Hands...missed that on my checklist!
ReplyDeleteI followed! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI also followed you on Twitter! Ha! I'm hitting almost all of these. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso tweeted!
ReplyDeleteI've actually never tried Gu products - I've only ever used Clif gels and Shot Bloks, so I'm really hoping I get chosen for this giveaway so I can try something new! I like Shot Bloks most but gels are also good too!
ReplyDeleteThere - I nailed all the entries that I can. Haha. :)
